Grade 3 Blues

 

Everyone says Grade 3 is the absolutely best grade to teach. I agree (for the most part) Some years are harder than other. I do teach Grade 3 and this year's class is a challenging one.

 

My goal for this year is to use some of this really cool technology in my classroom. It looks easy when we listen to others who have done it, but I know that it will be a challenge for me. But then again, this year has been a big challenge anyway, so I should try this.

 

I should be able to go to fun stuff and get any help I need.

 

 


 


Wow - I think this photo story stuff is really cool.  Can I do it?

 

This is my plan:

 

Topic:  will be the poetry unit we've been working on in February.  The class has already written a number of poems and printed them out.

 

The Cirriculum outcome is 'Representing'.  Kids can see themselves in a new mode of communication

 

How to:  Each student will pick their favorite composition.  I think ( and this could change) I'll take pictures of each child, or in groups of two or three.

Then have them recite their poem and see if we can put it all together. 

If this is too long we'll have to try to shorten it.

What we actually did:  Kids chose their 'favorite' poem that they composed. 

                                    They made a 'good' copy of it which will be compiled into a class poetry book

                                    Students took pictures of each other with the digital camera.

                                    Students recited their poem on their picture when it was in the Story Book.

Poetry Genre:  Explore different forms of poetry.

                        Read different forms

                        Write different forms with guidance and patterns of verse

                        Represent - recite into the mic and also in front of classmates

 

 

 

ICT Outcomes: Expose students to the technology

                        Allow students, with guidance, to use the technology to compose a class photo story

                        Students were taught how to use the digital camera eg. how to turn it on, how to center a picture, not to move before

                        the flash is done, and how to check if they got a good picture.  Make sure the wrist strap is on.

 

 

 

 Social Studies:

Because we have a great S.S. cirriculum help in Global Trek, I think doing a unit on ancient civilization of Egypt would be great.  Ideas??
