ICT AND US
HOW DO WE...?????
make changes or adaptations in our classrooms starting next year?
Before we begin to collaborate with each, I want to help you get your thoughts flowing.....
Here are several samples of how to get started;
....student samples, how they relate to our curriculum outcomes as well as ICT outcomes.
SAMPLE ONE:
STEP 1
Plan your CURRICULUM UNIT of study.
COMMUNITIES - grade 1,2 or 3
STEP 2
Look at the CURRICULUM OUTCOMES.
STEP 3
Fit in a TECHNOLOGY COMPONENT.
SAMPLE TWO:
STEP 1
Plan a project - PHOTO STORY
STEP 2
Look at the ELA CURRCULUM OUTCOMES.
What can I accomplish using photostory as my technology product?
STEP 3
Correspond with the TECHNOLOGY OUTCOMES.

As you have come to see, there are many different ways to incorporate technology into your existing classes.
There are several ways to look at this.....
1) Take a unit of study that you already know is successful, and then add a technology component to it (ie powerpoint, photostory, writing/drawing...). After you have completed this study with an added technology piece, take out the ICT continuum and be surprised at how much you have covered with just one "project". Remember to work on this in small steps!
2) Take a unit of study that you already have in place, and just add a small piece of technology to it. Maybe you can add some form of brainstorming or another mind map to begin a project. Maybe you can use the internet to gather some information, maybe you can use 1 form of technology to "show what you know"; ie artwork, video tape, interview (podcasting), photograph finished projects and have students record their oral presentation telling about their poster.....
The way that I see it as being most managable is, that as primary teachers, (to begin this new venture), try to work on 1 or 2 projects where technology has a bigger focus. Perhaps you can see yourself doing 1 'set of' photostories, either as a class set or in small groups, and maybe have students do powerpoints in the same way, either in small groups, or individually.
Then, along side these larger projects, you could then continue with ....writing samples with their own art work, photos, podcasts, or using software you already have in the labs...etc etc
KEY POINTS TO REMEMBER!!
You do not need to change your teaching!
Doing ONE project covers LOTS of the ICT contiuum!!!
Start by adding 1 component of technology to a unit of study you are familiar with.
TAKE BABY STEPS and work together!!
