My Life and Times

 

My name is Melissa Lynn Saler. I am 26 years old. I teach grade 3 and grade 5, 6, 7 and 8 French at Parkland Elementary School. I have only lived in Winkler for about a year and a half. I am orginally from Minnedosa, Manitoba. It is 2 and half hours north of here. I have also taught in Vita and Swan Valley. I have one brother, a mother and a father.

Tech College Assignment

 

Description

The moment is five things about myself in Grade 5 French. I want them to take pictures of themselves doing things they like to do or of themselves, so they can write/speak a sentence about each picture.

 

Curriculum Outcomes

Students will speak and write French sentences about themselves

 

ICT Outcomes 

Students will learn how to use a digital camera

Students will learn how to download pictures to the computer

Students will learn about the program and how to create a Photostory about themselves (organize pictures, sentences and their own choice of music)

 

(I want the students to see how easy it is to speak French and how much they know already. I want the students to write sentences for each of their picture and pronounce the French words correctly. I want to incorporate technology into the classroom. This assignment would be the start of their E Portfolio. Since it is student lead they will organize the pictures, sentences and pick their own music. I want to use this final project as an assessment and publication tool so parents can see what their students are learning in French class.)

 

The Plan

My plan would be to have the students each take a camera home for an evening to take five pictures of themselves and what they like to do. During the French class the next day we would down load the pictures onto the computer. During a computer day (every other day 1) we would import them into photostory, students can choose the order. Next we would write sentences about each picture. The students would have the choose of typing their sentences as well as speaking. We would add music. As a final project they would present themselves to the class. I would use this as an assessment.

 

The E Portfolio Produced

I would first need to start an E Portfolio for each student. Then I could use this as an assessment both as a French mark and a technology mark. I would also use this as a self-assessment mark. How do they think they can improve?, What have they learnt by watching others projects? I would like use this project as a publication, for parents to view.
