 Photo story lesson plan

Description:

A story of how St. Valentine's Day came to be a holiday

Curricular Outcomes: English Language Arts.

  • to represent (illustrate) and retell one scene from a story.
  • to put all the illustrations in story sequence.
  • to write the narration for their illustration only.

ICT Outcomes:

  •  to use the digital camera to take capture their illustration.
  • to record their narration with their illustration in Photo Story 3
  • to observe and participate making a photo story as a whole class so that they can
  • do it independently next time.

Mini lesson: How to use the digital camera. Talk about safely handling the camera and how to use various bottons. It's surprizing how many students had never used a camera before.  Make sure the picture is straight in the screen of the camera before you click.

  • Tip: Photo Story 3 prefers pictures in landscaper form over portrait. You'll do less editing and croping out black outlines when they are taken in landscape form.

The Plan: Listen to a story being read to them and then as a class and brainstorm all the different scenes that could be illustrated. Then each child draws a picture of only one scene. Encourage lots of bright colors and clear outlines so that they will show up better on the camera photo. Every child writes the narration that goes with their picture on a separate piece of paper so they can read it into the computer with their picture later.
