My life

Do you remember being in grade 4? I don't, but spending every day with 8 and 9 year olds certainly changes your view of the world! I love it! I've been teaching for 13 years and I still love it (thank goodness), but I have certainly come to appreciate summer holidays.

hawaiirental is one of my favorite websites - Hawaii here we come!!

Description:

Going through my week this week it did not really lend itself to a photostory activity or moment.  However, we have a staff event coming up on Thur., and I'd like to try this event as my novice attempt.

I would find this beneficial for a couple of reasons.  Mainly, it would give me a chance to try the process and program before using it together with the kids.  I would be able to become more familiar with this new mode of communication myself!

My plan is to take pictures at our event and to use Photostory to put these pictures into a viewable format.

*Event has happened and pictures have been taken - now I need to do the photostory process!

We had sports day last week and at the spur of the moment I took pictures of the students (using the school's camera) and started to experiment with photostory.  Right after lunch I had it to the point where the kids could add narration and they were quite thrilled with the process.  We viewed the finished product today, and they are very proud of their starring roles.  This spontaneous event has them primed for another!

 Assignment:

Description:

Students will create a photostory that demonstrates our class beliefs.

Outcomes desired:

Curricular outcomes:

-revisit and reaffirm our class beliefs

-students will be able to write clear, concise narration for photographs

-students will be able to work effectively as a team on their assigned belief

ICT outcomes:

-students will be able to use digital cameras to photograph their examples of classroom beliefs

-with guidance, students will be able to select photographs in PhotoStory program and add their scripted narration

Plan:

-As a class we will brainstorm around our 6 class beliefs - what would they look like?  Sound like?

-I will have them divide into 6 groups, each group being assigned one belief

-they will need to create ways to show their belief - demonstrate this belief in a way that can be photographed.

-they will photograph their own group work using digital cameras

-using photostory, they will select which picture(s) to use, and draft an effective narration to accompany the picture

-the final product will be a class collaboration on our class beliefs

EPortfolio Produced

We will have a Photostory account of our class beliefs that can be shared with our neighbouring grade 4 classes, and other classes as opportunity arises.  Also, a great project to share with parents on parent teacher day.
