Technology Integration PlanGVSD Technology Integration Plan (TIP)
The Technology Integration Plan (TIP) represents the GVSD’s “custom” response to Manitoba Education, Citizenship and Youth's "Literacy with ICT Across the Curriculum" initiative. The GVSD aims to move beyond mere equipment acquisition, and move toward true technology integration across the curriculum. Professional development for teachers is an important part of the TIP. The TIP also:
(i) includes an ICT literacy continuum for both teachers and students, (ii) involves empowering parents, and (iii) sets clear targets for technology use.
Ultimately:
“All teachers will acquire the necessary skills in technology to enhance the learning experiences of their students and facilitate the integration of technology in curriculum." (GVSD Technololgy Integration Plan, 2006, pg. 3) We will enlighten, encourage, enable and empower all learners to become responsible, contributing, and ethical members of the 21st century global society.
TIP Background
As part of their research in developing the TIP, representatives from GVSD visited schools in Quebec's rural Eastern Townships to see first-hand how wireless laptops given to all students in grade 3 are enhancing and improving learning. Seeing the infusion of ICT in an elementary setting left a significant impression on GVSD representatives. Further research revealed that when the development of ICT is ongoing and systematic, and supported by professional development and a reliable technology infrastructure, ICT can be successfully integrated into all areas of curricular and student life. The GVSD TIP was developed to provide a strategic implementation plan on a clear timeline, and represents GVSD's collaborative thinking about technology integration and future directions.
