2008-2009 Technology Innovations Grant

Garden Valley School Division’s mission is to operate great schools based on core community values and educational excellence. In keeping with this mission, GVSD encourages its teachers to explore innovative approaches in all aspects of teaching. To further encourage innovation in integrating technology in the classroom, GVSD will offer three grants of up to $1000 per grade cohort (K-4, 5-8, 9-12) to teachers who are interested in developing an innovative project related to technology integration. Successful applicants will be invited to showcase their project at a June GVSD board meeting. In addition, all recipients will be expected to provide ongoing updates, including a final overview of the project, through a teacher wiki and/or the GVSD wiki. In this way, all staff may benefit from the lessons learned and build on previous initiatives.

Teachers interested in developing an innovative ICT project are encouraged to contemplate and incorporate one or more of the following categorical approaches to innovation:

• using new/emerging technologies

• finding new approaches to learning and pedagogy

• innovative uses of hardware

• innovative uses of software

Interested applicants are asked to complete the 2008-09 Tech Innovations Grant application form. The following conditions apply:

• Applicants must be permanent teachers employed by Garden Valley School Division for the 2008-09 school year.

• Applicants must provide a complete project budget (not to exceed $1000.00) of material costs, including GST and PST if applicable.

• Projects are to be funded for the 2008-09 school year only.

• Only one grant of up to a maximum of $1000.00 per cohort per year will be awarded.
